Kitchen Inspiration

I subscribed to House & Garden for about a year. Only thing I got from this year long relationship was this amazing kitchen.

This is Gwyneth Paltrow's kitchen in her Hampton's abode. It's modern, but classic - which is a great combination. My husband wants dark cabinets, but I want to respect the architecture of our old house. We have a 1940's California Bungalow. Not a modern house.
So this kitchen gave me hope that you can accomplish both.
Thanks, Gwen.

And rest in peace House & Garden. Along with Blueprint, House & Garden is gone.

Short Circuit

Looking Up Dresses makes it's debut at the Santa Barbara Film Festival. This witty, dramatic comedy nails it. It's funny...but draws you into the characters in an authentic way. Great Film! Don't miss it!

The Ups and Downs of Life

Often times when I feel like there's nothing that can go wrong, something smacks me across the face.
That something feels like a 20 pound bag of bricks. Some people may say that's over-reacting, but that's how it feels.
But I guess the real test of life is when things aren't going the way you want them to, how do you respond?
There's a lot to say about embracing the moment and feeling shitty. It's okay. But then you need to move on.
That's what I did and I'm feeling a lot better. I felt a burden on my heart...and thought it was from this bad situation and what happened to me...but in reality it was my own weight from not letting it go.
Let life happen. Then move on. Someone is always looking out for you.

Melrose Trading Post

>

One of my favorite things to do on weekends is to visit, and ravage, the Melrose Trading Post. You might here this trading post referred to as Fairfax Trading Post or Fairfax High School Flea Market....whatever you call it, it's good.

Unlike other flea markets, you can find some quality, unique items. There are some artists who display there work - some better than others. But like all flea markets, there are some great antiques and funky items.

I'm Healthy...And Ready to Decorate

I was on such a role with blogging there for awhile, but then I got sick. Must have been the all-day airport adventures. Damn US travel.
Anyway, I'm back and I'm all fired up to make over our master bedroom. It's funny that we have not done one thing to our master bedroom since we moved in 1 year ago. We are far from being done with the other rooms in our house, but at least they were recipients of a fresh coat of paint.
When you walk into our room now, you see wires hanging from the TV, cracked walls with old paint, a mirror on the floor and a random oval mirror on the other side of our large bed. Oh yeah, and a white duvet that isn't white anymore. It's a sad state.
Our room is a difficult project, not only because it's small and lacks space for much style....but because my hubby and I can't agree on ANYTHING! However, I hate to say it, but he's gone for 4 days and I have a lot planned. :) I really do believe that if he just lets me do what I want, he'll like it. is that just evil?

One thing I know we both agreed on was this duvet and pillow set. It's from West Elm. It's a little funky, but tame with the colors.

I think the bedding is a good starting place for picking sheets, accessories, colors and wallpaper. We decided (Oh good...one more thing we agreed on!) that we would use wallpaper instead of paint. The cracks are a little too obvious and hard to cover up with just paint. We would like to use a wallpaper that is on the darker side that has a slight texture. Better to cover up those cracks with!
I will work on a collage tomorrow and start the shopping process! Wish me luck! I only have 4 days. :)

Traveling Mercies

I'm almost in tears....so instead of crying I'm going to blog. Online Diary, anyone?

It all started this morning at 3:30am when I woke up. Yes, 3:30am. My husband and me, plus his two friends, had a 6am flight from LAX to Portland to Redmond. We were meeting my entire family up there for a surprise birthday party for my brother-in-law. My sister has been planning this party for 4 months. She even went as far as to flying Jim and his two friends up. They will be entertaining the masses as their 3-piece glory band, World Peace Leaders.

We got to the airport only to find out that all the 6am flights had been cancelled. After an hour of playing with flight schedules, talking with my parents and weighing our options....the decision was the 3 boys to take an Alaska flight directly to Redmond, OR. The reason we could only have 3 go? There were only 3 tickets available. Sucks.

I was the martyor because I'm not part of the band. If I don't make it...too bad...but at least the party still happened.

So i got on a 6:55am flight to Vegas, which was then to go to San Fran, and then to Richmond. Not bad, unless you have horrible weather and San Fran closes.

Yep, that's where I'm at. I was sitting on the plane, and then had to get off once they announced that San Fran was closed. So now I'm in Sin City. All by myself. On the verge of tears. Not knowing what the hell is going to happen. This blows.

I'm not going to cry about it. I'm going to be a big girl. But honestly, that's all i want to do. I want to burst out in tears, in the middle of this mass of people, and scream "I am all alone and I need to get to my family! You all suck!".

I don't think that would do any good though. Damn.

The Bug Loves....nothing right now. The Bug actually HATES.
