LA Biz Ladies Meetup

Design*Sponge is hosting a Biz Ladies Meetup on April 15th. They will have four speakers covering PR/Marketing, Retailing/Wholesaling, Business and Legal Advice and a Local Designer to tell stories of their successes. My very good friend, Lindsay Horstman, will be the speaker for Business and Legal Advice. I am so thrilled for her!
The purpose of this meetup is to talk to others and hear others' stories on how they were able to take their business from hobby/past time to a full-time job. Can't wait to hear some good advice!
If you would like to attend, visit Design Sponge and email Grace.

Sick Puppy

Today is Sunday, March 16th. Tomorrow is my 27th birthday. Jim and i were supposed to be making our way back from Vegas right about now. We had a great weekend planned out there! Rooms at The Paris, a surprise show for my birthday and some good romantic fun! However, our plans were rudely changed when I came down with a really bad case of the flu...or maybe pneumonia. Not quite sure yet. It's been almost 5 days now and I'm still feeling the same - really bad cough, tightness in my chest, head ache, runny nose - the works. Looks like tomorrow won't be a rager of a birthday!
So until I concur this sickness (with the help of antibiotics that I will get tomorrow!) I will be taking a blogging break.

Happy St Patrick's Day!

Sew, Sew, Sew Me Something....

The other day I pulled out Simple Sewing, ready to take on a new project. Only problem, I didn't have any fabric. Sort of a big problem. So I drove out to a Wall-Mart size Joanne's and went shopping. Before I left I worked out 5 different projects. This way I could pick out fabrics based on actual sewing projects, instead of ending up with a bunch of fabric that isn't exactly right...or the right size.
I came home with some great fabrics!

My first project was the easy apron project. It took me a couple hours because I am still getting used to my machine...and hey...I'm new at this. Looking back at my project, I'm pretty happy with the end product. I'm thinking I'll give it to my sister...the colors are definitely her.
Lesson Learned: I need to buy a yard stick. :)

Next up, baby blanket. Dun Dun DUN!

Read.

I have had a renaissance of sort regarding reading. Not trashy novels, or silly stories, or even a novel. I am inspired to know more spiritually. I feel that there is so much to know about God and that my 'knowledge' hasn't fully (it may never) grow into something deeper like Spiritual Understanding.
In the mean time, I have a stack of reading material that I'll be pouring my heart into.
Wish me luck in my venture.

Spring Forward

It's Spring and it's showing here in Burbank! The weather is getting warmer, and the trees are coming back...and flowers are coming out. It's great!
It's the best time of the year in Burbank. The summer is just too hot...and you can't beat 80 degree weather with some soft wind blowin' through the house. Love it!

So, with all this great weather and no fear of heat or freeze, I thought I would focus on the front yard. We started redoing the backyard, but it got too cold and we put it all on hold. I haven't been motivated again to finish that part quite yet.

I went and got some great annuals during the Osh 'Buy One Get One Free' event last Saturday. The annuals will bloom for several months! We also went to the local wholesale nursery and got some nice looking greens to fill in the empty spaces. Here are a few pictures of the progression of how the front has looked over the past year. I can't believe we bought the house over a year ago!!

Happy Planting!!

Wallpaper come to Fruition

Awhile back I blogged about wallpaper. I had found a few websites that I really loved, but finally decided on the Grass Cloth from Design Your Walls.
First off, the deliver and shipping were simple and easy. I had the wallpaper in my hot little hand within two days...with only paying for basic shipping. They are based in Long Beach, so it was super quick. The wallpaper looked just like it did online...which was a HUGE relief!
The actual wallpapering experience was an ordeal. I'll be honest - I probably won't wallpaper again. Painting takes time, but wallpapering takes more than just time...patience! :) Finding the adhesive was harder than I thought. I went to 6 different places before finding a strippable heavy adhesive for heavy paper. Who knew that wallpapering was so rare!? Home Depot didn't even carry wallpaper.
I finally found the adhesive at a specialty paint store....and a lot of great advice as well. The specialty stores are full of great, knowledgable sales people. Thank God! Home Depot and Lowe's are a little tough to rely on.
After talking with the sales person, I realized that I needed to prime the walls, not just clean them.
Thank God I had some extra hands to help. My parents had come up for the day, or so they thought, to help me with my project. It ended up taking 2 full days...until 11:30pm on day two. Yikes.
But the result was fantastic. My husband just kept saying, "We have an adult's room!"
